Biography

Mohammad Mehrmohammadi is currently an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering with an Adjunct appointment at Electrical and Computer Engineering and Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wayne State University. He also serves as a scientific member and a member of the research steering committee of the molecluar imaging program at Karmanos Cancer Institute. He received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran), M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago, IL), and his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin (Austin, TX). He is the recipient of a number of awards such as Department of defense breakthrough award (breast cancer program – 2018), DMC foundation grant (2020), Michigan Translational Research & Commercialization (M-TRAC) Fast Forward Medical Device Innovation (2018), Karmanos Cancer Institute pilot research grant (2017), Wayne State Technology development incubator award (2017). He is currently a member of the editorial board for a number of several journals including Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. He also serves as technical committee member for Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and SPIE Medical Imaging conferences. He serves as a reviewer for a number of journals and conferences including: IEEE TUFFC, IEEE TMI, Laser Physics Letters, Medical Physics, Nanotechnology, Optics Express, Optics Letters, Advanced Material, Nanoscale, JASA, Ultrasonic Imaging, Physics Review Letter, Photoacoustics, Ultrasonics, Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology, Nature Machine Intelligence, and Cancer Letters. Dr. Mehrmohammadi’s areas of interest includes biomedical applications of ultrasound and optical imaging, novel functional, cellular and molecular ultrasound imaging, and ultrasound tissue elastography. Within this scope, design, development and clinical validation of novel ultrasound modalities has been a focus of his research activities. He has authored/co-authored several refereed archival journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings and abstracts. In addition he currently has a number of patented inventions. Dr. Mehrmohammadi funded and is currently acting as the director of Functional and Molecular Ultrasound Imaging Laboratory at Wayne State University (http://ultrasoundwayne4.wixsite.com/mehr-lab), where he supervises a number of talented students and fellows working on developing novel ultrasound and optical based imaging modalities for various types of applications including early stage cancer detection, enhancing the quality of maternal and fetal care, and improving image-guided interventions.
